this is the most public [seen from the road] and long lived work that I made in the village of Gabrovci, Bulgaria. Lidiq Karkelanova, who lives there is kind enough to photograph it November 20 and sends me these images. and Rumen Dimitrov came on November 28th, a sunny day, and photographed my necklace of stones on the river.

at night, light sculpture BECOMING A STAR, WHEN THE MAGIC BEGINS

this is at night, a sculpture for an exhibition of 'lights' called GLEAM at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. It is over/in the water on a small pond that has some duckweed on the surface. The lights change hue every 50 second — the seven colors. In the day the work is painted Japanese Torii red, one reason to be a compliment to the green duck weed.

I wanted it quiet and then we were a happy group as we worship the place/fire/action on a warm summer night. this is the FIVE LEGGED CHIMNEY

fire in my FIVE LEGGED CHIMNEY from Roy Staab on Vimeo.

FIRE PERFORMANCE IN THE NIGHT

STONE, WATER, FIRE. In the middle of the river my five legged chimney, a hollow cylinder is right to make a fire inside. What better for the end of a symposium than to have a happening/performance. This is a nature-art grouping and our final night June 22nd at Gabrovtsi, Bulgaria. The Bulgarian artists came with me to experience the fire in the night. Danica Milusheva and Orfey Mindov photographed and filmed it. 'come on baby light my fire'.

the nineth work..Four stone base Flatstone three stones branches

the last work that I made in Bulgaria. [I am not going figurative] I think of height, first with the balance stone structure: a four stone base and then up to go as wide as the available branches that I find along the shore of the river to make a clear triangular form. Well! she dances like a Japanese Geisha in her pose.

FIVE LEGGED CHIMNEY...

My arch near the bridge and swimming hole was knocked down but it is a good place so I returned to make a new work with a new idea. I started with five legs and then proceeded to make a tubular shape balancing the rocks. Here is a view from the side and one from the top looking in.

The seventh work..WINGED ON THE RIVER a collaborative and variations to satisfy.

July 19h Marie Gayatri from Sweden is a fellow at this symposium wanted to work with me on a piece. We went up the river to find an area and use some of the stones what are there for our collaboration and left. I returned the next day because I was not satisfied, searching for branches to make it flow. It turned out to look like a jet airplane with the fine end of the branches going up. I return again and change it simplifying. And I came again with Denica Milusheva who said this work is too brute...so I made it more fine and moved the heavy stones.
